Equipment to bring for a ski touring outing

To fully enjoy your guided ski touring day, it’s essential to have the right equipment. Here’s the complete list of necessary equipment, including what we provide and what you need to bring.

Equipment provided if you are not equipped:

  • Rescue kit: DVA (Avalanche Victim Detector), shovel, and probe
  • Backpack suitable for the activity (30/35L)

Personal equipment to provide:

  • Touring skis with insert bindings (Low Tech type)
  • Climbing skins in good condition (glue and hair still effective)
  • Snow knives adapted to your bindings
  • Releasable ski touring boots (with uphill/downhill mode)
  • Ski poles with large baskets (≈ 8 cm)
  • 30 to 35 liter backpack
  • Minimum 1.5 liters of water per person
  • Picnic + food (dried fruit, bars, fruit jellies, etc.)

Appropriate clothing

  • Breathable ski pants with vents
  • Waterproof Gore-Tex jacket
  • Micro-down jacket or warm fleece
  • Technical base layer (avoid cotton)
  • Buff, neck warmer
  • Thin gloves + warm gloves or mittens
  • Sunglasses (Cat. 3 or 4) and/or ski goggles
  • Thin hat, headband, or cap + warm hat
  • Ski helmet recommended but optional (at your convenience)

Little essentials:

  • High-factor sunscreen (SPF 30 minimum)
  • Second-skin blister plasters (Compeed or equivalent)

Think about cancellation insurance:

It is strongly recommended to take out cancellation insurance before booking.
This will cover you in the event of an unforeseen event (injury, work impediment, family incident, etc.) resulting in the cancellation of your participation. Without this, the costs incurred for the stay will be reimbursed according to the scale of the General Terms and Conditions.

An option for “Impact Évasion” cancellation insurance will be offered to you at the time of your reservation.

Mandatory personal insurance:

Each participant must have:

  • Individual liability insurance
  • Insurance covering rescue and repatriation costs

It is your responsibility to ensure that your insurance policy covers this type of mountain activity.

You will be offered “Impact Multisports” rescue and repatriation insurance at the time of your reservation.

My equipment advice:

Conditions vary quickly in the mountains: wear versatile clothing. The 3-layer system is ideal (1st technical layer + thermal layer + windproof layer). A 4th emergency layer can be useful (e.g., sleeveless down jacket). Avoid sweating in overly warm clothing: humidity prevents you from warming up, even with a heavy down jacket.
