Off-piste skiing and freerando

Freerando – Short approaches and long runs
Who is freerando and off-piste skiing for?
Ideal for experienced skiers looking for thrills without long climbs.
It’s also a great introduction to ski touring on natural terrain.
Where do these outings take place?
And where to stay?
Here are some places I recommend for restful nights and homemade mountain meals: la Grande Ferme in Saint-Sauveur, La Jarbelle in Les Orres or the gîte l’Edelweiss in Abriès, very close to the race departures.
Simple, welcoming, and well-located places to fully enjoy your stay.
What are the benefits?
- Quick access to unspoiled slopes
- Less effort on the ascent, more descents
- Professional supervision for safe skiing
- Perfect format for an intense day or weekend with enthusiasts

A typical day of off-piste skiing and freerando
Want to experience a real day of mountain adventure? Here’s what a supervised off-piste skiing and freerando outing in the Hautes-Alpes looks like, combining learning, magnificent landscapes, and the joy of skiing.
- 8:30 a.m. – Meet in Baratier: Departure is from the carpool area at the Les Orres roundabout. Easy to access and convenient for everyone. (GPS coordinates below). Arriving by train? We’ll pick you up at the station. Simply book your outing and let us know by email—we’ll take care of the rest.
- Transportation to the Departure Point: Aboard our minibus, we’ll take you to the departure point of the day’s resort, depending on the current snow and weather conditions.
- Equipment & Safety Brief: Before putting on your skis, we’ll check your equipment together: touring skis, climbing skins, insert bindings, freerando boots… as well as the rescue pack (DVA, shovel, probe) provided if needed.
- First Run: From the top of the ski lifts, we’ll make our first off-piste descent.
- Second Run: After a “short” climb on skiskins (~500/700m D+), we’ll have a picnic at the summit with a breathtaking view. And we finish with a fun 1000m D- descent punctuated by a few tips to improve your skiing in all snow and terrain.
- Return between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.: Return to the valley with a smile on your face and your legs well worked. A full day, rich in learning and thrills.
This outing is ideal for discovering off-piste skiing and freerando in the Southern Alps, improving your technique, testing your equipment, and experiencing a mountain immersion. Professional supervision, a friendly atmosphere, and routes suitable for all levels.

Think about cancellation insurance:
It is strongly recommended that you take out cancellation insurance before booking.
This will cover you in the event of an unforeseen event (injury, professional impediment, family unforeseen event, etc.) resulting in the cancellation of your participation. Without this, the costs incurred for the stay will be reimbursed according to the scale of the General Terms and Conditions.
An option for “Impact Évasion” cancellation insurance will be offered to you at the time of your reservation.
Mandatory personal insurance:
Each participant must have:
- Individual liability insurance
- Insurance covering rescue and repatriation costs
It is your responsibility to ensure that your insurance policy covers this type of mountain activity.
You will be offered “Impact Multisports” rescue and repatriation insurance at the time of your reservation.
My equipment advice:
Conditions vary quickly in the mountains: plan for modular clothing. The 3-layer system is ideal (1st technical layer + thermal layer + windproof layer). A 4th emergency layer can be useful (e.g., sleeveless down jacket). Avoid sweating in clothes that are too warm: humidity prevents you from warming up even with a heavy down jacket.
